Dramatis Personae[edit]
“ | The eldest son and heir of Lord Ironhawk. His education has prepared him for the responsibilities and privileges of Britannian lordship, but his greatest aptitude dwells in his swordarm. When Althea told him that Balthan had vanished, he set out alone with notions of quest-adventure and glory swirling in his head. He got all the adventure he wanted, and more, but his hopes for glory died when he touched Balthan's curtain of magic and was blinded by it. – from Dramatis Personae (Ultima Saga: The Temper of Wisdom)

Biography[edit]
The son of Erwald Ironhawk and Lady Barbara, Jordan grew up in Hawksnest with his younger brother Darrel and the children of a Peer, Althea and Balthan. Called “Jordie” by his childhood friends, much to his chagrin, he is a good looking young man just past his eighteenth name day. He has a moustache, but keeps his beard clean shaven.
After receiving his first sword at the age of five, he practiced swordcraft nearly every day in the sandy arena behind Hawksnest. At the age of fifteen, he disarmed his father with a practice blade, and since then he and his mentors have used live steel. He bears an assortment of scars across his arms, legs and chest to remind him of his mistakes.
Similarly, Lord Erwald began bringing his son on seasonal trips with him to Trinsic when he was five. Jordan raised and trained his own Valorian, whom he named Fugatore. He knows the syllables for all of the common spells, although he does not possess the aptitude for magic.
Self-sure and cocky, Jordan wants to begin his Virtue Quest by learning the mantra of Valor and traveling to the shrine to meditate, but he knows that he is not ready. He envies his father, who is already a Virtue Peer and who began his own quest in the same manner.
The Forge of Virtue[edit]
Not long after Lord British’s fateful trip into the Underworld, Jordan, Darrel, Althea, and a local blacksmith named Drumon leave Hawksnest to find Althea's brother, Balthan. Balthan, who is amanuensis for the wizard Felespar, had gone missing when the Mage Council was arrested by Blackthorn.
During the events of the novel, Jordan became good at leading his small troupe of adventurers, and came to see them with new respect. He began to question the hierarchy and established principles, which would normally keep him apart from his compatriots. Near the end of his quest, he even thought about seeking the mantra of Honor first, despite what he father would have thought, and with that realized that he no longer feared his father.
Upon being blinded by Balthan's spell, Jordan sinks into depression.

Trivia[edit]
- Despite both covers showing him with a standard sword blade, Jordan carries a bastard sword.
- Bastard swords are not listed among the weapons of the Ultima series. Likely, these are similar to the real world weaponry of the same name, being long enough to be used two-handed, but light enough to be used one-handed if necessary.
