Jared is a beggar child who had been relocated to Paws in Ultima IX.

With no mother or father to help him, Jared was forced to steal just to feed himself. He was exiled to Paws after getting caught stealing radishes from Farmer Bob in Britain. When the Avatar met him in Paws, he was so upset that all he could do was lament his misfortune.[1]
After the Shrine of Compassion was cleansed, Farmer Bob hired him to work his fields, and paid him with a good meal every day and a place to sleep in the evenings.
