Hewstone is a mountainman mining gold on the second level of the Abyss. He appears in Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss.
Description[edit]
The Avatar found him in the tunnels of the mines of the second level of the Abyss. Hewstone told the hero how he had barely escaped the attacks of the gazer that patrols the area. Hewstone warned the Avatar about the danger and provided directions to reach the creature, wishing the hero luck in this perilous undertaking. During their conversation, Hewstone's passion for mining and his admiration for gold became evident. He spoke at length about his work and shared a useful piece of information: that a rock hammer can be used to break down large boulders into smaller rocks, which is useful for excavation.
Later, like the other inhabitants of the Abyss, he was rescued by Garamon, when the volcano erupted.
