British writer Herbert George Wells ("My friends call me Bertie.") (1866-1946) was one of the members of the prematurely-launched 1893 expedition to Mars.

Description[edit]

Wells was one of several humans whose bodies were taken over by the Martians who fled to the Dream-World to escape the plague unleashed by Raxachk. While trapped in the dream realm, his body was inhabited by the martian, Bikchiz.

The Avatar first met Wells in his nightmare in Martian Dreams, where the writer was trapped at the end of a massive labyrinth that distorted the hero's sense of direction, and seemed to defy the laws of physics. Upon finally reaching Wells, the hero discovered he was surrounded by invisible proto-martians. The Avatar was eventually able to drive off the aggressors and free Wells from his nightmare.[1]

After later talking with Wells at length, it was clear that the author's experiences on Mars had inspired much for him to write about when he returned to Earth.

Lore[edit]

Renowned British writer whose work included such seminal science fiction tales as "The Time Machine" (1895) and "The War of the Worlds" (1898), the latter almost certainly inspired by his experiences on Mars. He also penned such popular non-fiction works as "The Outline of History," which encompassed all of Earth's history from the dawn of time.
