Gimble is a sick man living in Minoc's Poor House during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Barely conscious and deeply ill, Gimble would reveal to the Stranger that he had suffered the 'byte' of a tstse fly and that he soon expected to die from the resulting sickness. Should the hero be kind enough to spare some alms for the dying man, he would reveal that the carver, Azure, knew of the Rune of Sacrifice.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Gimble can be identified as an injured man in the same building, who gives all the information about the location of the Rune of Sacrifice.[2]
- The illness most associated with tsetse bites is African trypanosomiasis or "sleeping sickness", a parasitic disease caused by trypanosoma brucei protozoa transmitted by infected flies. Gimble appears to have symptoms consistent of the neurological phase of this illness, which is marked by disruptions of the sleep cycle.
