Ultima VII
Location: Trinsic

Gargan is a shipwright in Trinsic in Ultima VII, running his business on the corner of Chalice Avenue and the Avenue of the Fellowship. He appears to be in possession of some manner of lung ailment (possibly due to tobacco use), and his dialogue is interspersed by narrative text describing him coughing, sneezing and otherwise acting sickly.

Description[edit]

Like most other inhabitants of Trinsic at the time, Gargan expressed his regrets over the murders of Christopher and Inamo. While primarily concerned with the specifics of his trade, he could prove useful in the Avatar's investigation of the slayings, confirming the guard Gilberto's claim that the ship known as the Crown Jewel had left port for Britain before sunrise on the day of the killings, and recalling having seen a man with a hook for a hand and a wingless gargoyle prowling the area.[1]

Unfazed by the rise of the Fellowship and the changing mores of modern Britannia, Gargan commented primarily on shipcraft, telling the hero if asked, about the newly famous shipwright, Owen. He would offer the Avatar's company the deed for a ship known as The Scaly Eel, if pressed for his wares, and could also furnish the adventurers with sextants.

Lore[edit]

We have the usual: a trainer, an armourer, a shipwright, a healer and a barmaid — well, she is not so usual.

Trivia[edit]

  • Gargan's constant hemming and hacking, as well as his poor hygiene, will elicit complaints and exclamations from various party members.
  • It is mentioned in the narration, that Gargan seemingly hasn't sold many ships in recent times and is eager for a sale.
