This article is about a character from Ultima VII. For The Ultima 6 Project character, see Fred (U6P).
Fred, along with his wife Kelly, operated Britain's Farmer's Market during Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
Fred was a friendly merchant who tended to the farmer’s market's selection of meats and fishes from his stand on Park Square. If asked, he would speak a little about his supplier, Morfin, revealing his opinions about the slaughterer's less than scrupulous character and his past in Buccaneer's Den. He would also discuss the different mercantile culture of the nearby hamlet of Paws, discussing how the poor economy there force more personal interaction between vendors.[1]
Lore[edit]

Goods[edit]
Prices in Ultima VII were as follows:[2]
Cost (gp) | ||
---|---|---|
Beef | 20 | |
Ham | 20 | |
Fowl | 3 | |
Mutton | 3 | |
Meat on a spit | 3 | |
Dried meat (ten) |
2 | |
Flounder | 7 | |
Trout | 4 |
Trivia[edit]
- The price for mutton (3 gold pieces) is the same as the one that Morfin in Paws demands. Thus it actually is feasible to buy mutton from Fred and then sell it to Boots in Castle Britannia for a profit of 2 gold pieces per mutton. Due to the short ways involved, Fred is best used for this tactic.
- The massive price difference of beef and ham to other vendors offering these meats, and to Fred's other meats, is rather mysterious and does create several questions. The price of these two meats at the Blue Boar Tavern being identical to Fred's does suggest a price-fixing agreement.
