Dickens is a wise bard living Skara Brae during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Dickens could be found alongside other thinkers and philosophers gathered around the Ankh of Spirituality. If asked about his profession, the bard would tell the Stranger that he wrote stories – particularly ones that might prove good for the spirits of others. He would further remind the hero that none are useless who lighten the burdens of others and always to watch that the net good within them well exceeded their net evil.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- Dickens takes his name from the famous author Charles Dickens. The Ultima character paraphrases a famous quote Dicken's last novel, Our Mutual Friend, when he says: "Remember, no one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of others!"
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Dickens can be identified as a woman in the south-eastern part of town. Instead of quoting a novel by Charles Dickens, she actually talks as one of the characters in the same novel: a girl whose brother abandoned her in order to selfishly improve his social status.[2]
