Corby is the former scribe of Sir Cabirus. He appears in Ultima Underworld.
Description[edit]
Corby was still a very young man full of idealism when Sir Cabirus selected him as his scribe in the Abyssal colony. He held this position until Sir Cabirus' death, writing the book Memoirs of Sir Cabirus on his master's notes after Cabirus had died. Shortly after Cabirus' death however, the colony broke up and he was locked in with the others, when it became a prison and the doors got sealed.
Years later, the Avatar met him, the man having taken shelter with the Mountain-Folk. Corby gave the hero much good advice about the eight talismans, having seen all of them in person, but had clearly become bitter and cynical over what had happened to Sir Cabirus' dreams. Garamon finally rescued him, along with the other settlers, when the Abyss erupted, destroying the colony.
Lore[edit]
“ | As I set these words upon this parchment, I have recently emerged from the Stygian Abyss. I am the former page of the late Sir Cabirus, and the Eight Virtues have impelled me to compile these excerpts from the writings and speeches of my beloved spiritual master. Through the founding of our brave colony in the very heart of the Great Stygian Abyss, Sir Cabirus has demonstrated a degree of Valor and Sacrifice comparable only to the selfless acts of Lord British or the Avatar themselves.
I witness to the Honesty and Justice of this record with my signature. |

“ | This area is where Corby is usually to be found. What a wretch - I am sure that you will enjoy speaking to him and goading him in his torment. Friend was he of Sir Cabirus, and a follower of Cabirus' ideals; since the knight's death, he has become a hollow, tortured shell of a man. He knows something of Cabirus' eight talismans and their purpose, but not their current whereabouts. |

Trivia[edit]
- According to the game, Memoirs of Sir Cabirus was written by Corby, using Sir Cabirus' notes. It was only by chance that the manuscript did make it to the surface, as Corby had delivered it shortly before the doors got sealed.
- Corby testifies that Cabirus died a natural death, however untimely, thus disproving murder accusations.
