Cain is a character unique to the Super Nintendo-port of Ultima VII, where he fills the same functional role as Caine in the PC version of the game.
Description[edit]
The ghostly apothecary of Skara Brae, Cain had been in charge of preparing a magical potion to help dispel the liche Rudolfo, but his work had been stifled when Trent, despondent over the loss of his wife Rowena, was unable to complete the magical cage needed to bind the undead creature before the potion could be applied. Unlike his PC counterpart Caine, Cain had caused no conflagration through his alchemy, and was unburdened by any guilt for the fate which Skara Brae suffered.
When the Avatar arrived on the island, seeking the answers to the questions of life and death from Cain, the shade refused to answer until Rudolfo was first defeated. After the hero secured the end of the liche, the dead alchemist would reveal that life and death had no answers, only questions, and that Alagner would understand this wisdom.[1]
