Location: Monk Isle

Braccus is a reclusive and somewhat eccentric Xenkan Monk residing on Serpent Isle, primarily known for his deep knowledge of plants and his role in tending the monastery's gardens. The Avatar encounters him in Ultima VII Part Two, and Braccus plays a key role in assisting the hero with the acquisition of mandrake root. Despite his spiritual nature, Braccus notably rejects the concept of personal names and avoids discussing the prophecies of Xenka.

Description[edit]

Many of the other monks on the island considered Braccus a strange eccentric, even by their own standards, but his knowledge of plants was unmatched. Even Thoxa mentioned this in her notes. The Avatar met him while on Monk Isle. Although he spoke of various spiritual matters, he informed the Avatar that he would not discuss Xenka’s prophecies..

However, Braccus was instrumental in helping the Avatar acquire fresh mandrake root for Fedabiblio. To obtain a replacement spellbook, the Avatar needed this root, and it was Braccus who knew where to find it, as he always watched the salt tides. A later conversation with him revealed that the tides were favorable, allowing the Avatar to harvest the roots from the swamp north of the monastery. Additionally, Braccus offered the Avatar his reserves of dried roots. While these dried roots were of no use to Fedabiblio, they were perfect for spellcasting.

Lore[edit]

And dear Braccus — several on the isle think he’s crazy, but I found his company charming and his knowledge of the local plants quite fascinating. He told me about the berry bush on the isle. Its berries are very nutritious and are good to take on long trips. I hope that I shall see them all again some day but I know that the journey ahead of me is dangerous.

Trivia[edit]

  • Braccus' visage is that of Ultima VII Part Two programmer, Jeff Wilson. Wilson also appears in Ultima VII as the actor, Jesse.
  • Since Braccus won't tell his name, it can only be discovered indirectly.
  • Braccus confuses his and Miggim’s home. The dried mandrake roots Braccus offers the Avatar are actually stored in Miggim's hut rather than in Braccus' home.
