Arial is the daughter of Baron Almric, and because of her status, a key NPC in Ultima Underworld.
Description[edit]
Tyball saw her as ideal for the sacrifice to open the Chamber of Virtue with the Slasher of Veils inside, since she fulfilled the criteria of being both virtuous and a virgin. Thus he had her kidnapped and brought into the Stygian Abyss to sacrifice her. After the baron's captain Corwin had failed to rescue her, the Avatar was sent into the Abyss to retrieve her, eventually managing to kill Tyball and free Arial. She returned to the surface using the Amulet of Travel to warn the people of the impending disaster, while the Avatar continued on the quest to banish the Slasher of Veils.
Arial was later reunited with the hero as they escaped the Isle of the Avatar on her father's ship after the eruption of the Abyss.

| “ | This third way was to find someone of great virtue — perhaps not of sufficient virtue to open the door himself, but of great virtue nonetheless, and a virgin besides — and sacrifice that person after a lengthy ritual before the chamber door. The sacrifice would shatter the virtue of the chamber and reopen the rent into the demon's dimension.
Naturally, Tyball chose the third means. He begrudged the amount of time it would take to find someone virtuous enough, but was in luck: The sterling character of Arial, the daughter of Baron Almric, was well known throughout Almric's dominion. Tyball took a troll-minion to Almric's castle, used his magical powers to appear within the girl's chamber, and rudely stuffed her into a sack, which he then dropped out the window to the waiting troll. At this point, nothing stood between him and ultimate victory. |

Trivia[edit]
- The only voice she utters aloud, a scream, is provided by Mary Margaret Ipser.
- Freeing Arial is not actually necessary to complete the game, though she will nonetheless appear in the ending.
