Iolo is leader of the Bard's Guild in Britain.
Description[edit]
Former companion of the original Avatar.
Conversation[edit]
- "Welcome to the Bard's Guild, friend. I am Iolo, one of Britannia's most famous Bards, and it would be my pleasure to tell you a tale or two."
- ""
- "If only I could utter his name without choking up. I fear any tale I could tell or song I could sing would only wrap and waver. One day he will return, and then I will reprise my old poems of yore."
- ""
- [Iolo begins to recite a limerick.] "There once was a Bard names Iolo, he sang with a voice that was so low. He made Gwenno his missus, gave her so many kisses; so much that he seldom plays solo."
- ""
- "It's -Iolo- actually. It rolls off the tongue like so... 'Ee-YO-low'. Now you say it."
- Eee-yo-lah.
- Eye-oh-low.
- Yeah, Lawl.
- "My wife and I were lifelong companions to Lady British's father. We sang of him and the first Avatar during the Golden Age. I am retired now, but if you become an Avatar, I will sing your deeds ad well."
- ""
- "Out biggest success was a little tune called 'Stones'. Gwenno wrote the lyrics and I wrote the melody. It is a catchy little ditty about Standing Stones."
- "Welcome to the Bard's Guild, friend. I am Iolo, one of Britannia's most famous Bards, and it would be my pleasure to tell you a tale or two."
Trivia[edit]
- Iolo's counterpart in reality is David R. Watson of Austin, Texas, a personal friend of Ultima creator Richard Garriott and an actual bowyer by trade.
- David Watson actually did compose the song "Stones," which appears frequently in the Ultima series. His wife, the late Kathleen Jones (Gwenno), wrote the lyrics.
