Monsters unique to Ultima V, two stone gargoyles appear at first as inanimate statues flanking the doorway that leads to the Crown of Lord British in the Palace of Blackthorn. As soon as the Avatar draws close to them, however, they come to life and attack.

These gargoyles multiply when struck, much like slime, and are capable of throwing rocks at a distance. The best way to get rid of them is either to escape (although that may be deemed unvirtuous behavior) or attack them with the glass sword, the only weapon which will certainly kill them instantly without making them multiply.

They bear no relationship to the Gargoyles of Ultima VI, and seem to more resemble an early version of stone harpies.
