Beginning with Ultima V, in lieu of chests, some opponents might leave their remains behind on the field of battle when defeated. These remnants are never trapped, but can occasionally leave behind useful goods, as well as the danger of illness.

By Game[edit]

Ultima V[edit]

Other than finding nothing at all, four results can occur when looting remains: Worms, guts, and a bloody pulp are disgusting but carry no further penalties. The least desirable outcome of searching remains can result in contracting a plague, thus requiring a method of curing poison.

Ultima VI[edit]

Beginning with Ultima VI: The False Prophet, defeated enemies (usually) leave their corpses behind, which may then be searched for useful items. (Note that, in the SNES port, the corpses vanish, leaving any loot behind automatically.)
