The magic key is an artifact found in the NES port of Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar.

Rather than allowing the player to access locked rooms with one-use skeleton keys, the Nintendo-port of Quest of the Avatar features a multi-use artifact known as the magic key, which must be purchased from a Guild Shop at the hefty price of two-thousand gold pieces.
