Escape from Mt. Drash Hints

Escape from Mt. Drash is very simplistic in its goals, yet there are a number of things that have to be taken into account, or the mission fails. Most of this comes from Dino's Ultima Page.

Goals in the Levels[edit]

The goal is to find the exit in each of the 15 levels. However, things get progressively more difficult over time, as more conditions are to be met before you can advance to the next level.

  • Starting with level 5, gems appear on the map, and at least one is needed to open the exit.
  • Starting with level 7, the overhead view of the maze disappears.
  • Starting with level 9, monsters can no longer be seen on the map until being drawn into battle.
  • Starting with level 11, the direction indicator (compass) is removed.
  • Starting with level 13, both gems in a level are needed to open the exit.

For each level you only have 99 seconds to accomplish the goal. Fail the time limit - or die three times in combat - and you have to start at the beginning of the level again.

The Maze[edit]

Each maze is composed of a 9x9 grid which is created by random, so no level layout is ever the same. You always start in the southeastern corner and the exit is always in the northwestern corner. The two gems are found in the northeastern and southwestern corners of the level.

Drawn into Battle[edit]

This is the real meat of the game. The various monsters have weak points that have to be hit, in order to kill them in a timely manner. Here now the monsters and how to defeat them.

Floating Orb
Floatorb.png To deal a mortal blow to a Floating Orb, you need to thrust your sword deep enough so that the hilt and a small part of the blade only are outside the Floating Orb.
Gremlin
Gremlindash.png Try and aim so that your sword comes exactly in line with the frontmost point of it - if you thrust your sword too far, it will miss, while an exact hit can kill it with one blow.
Dancing Demon
DancingDemon.png Dancing Demons seem to be vulnerable in the head - you can kill them by pointing your sword at their brain.
Phantom
Phantomdash.png Thrust your sword a step away from the phantom's eyes (it's easier to calculate the distance when only its eyes show).
Purple Slime
PurpleSlime.png As with the gremlin, hit the slime's frontmost point to kill it.
