Barren is a ranger living in Paws during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
The hooded Barren could tell the Stranger of his travels through the land. Should he be specifically asked as to what land he traveled in, the ranger would think the hero a bit dim, but would nevertheless help the adventurer in finding the nearby Rune of Humility, instructing the hero to search the hills in the southeastern corner of the hamlet.[1]

NES remake.
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Barren can be identified with the ranger in the village pub, who gives information about a different Rune: that of Spirituality, instead of Humility.[2]
