The interesting thing about making your main character a Shepherd in Ultima 4 is that your xp mainly comes from finding quest items. Since your main character can reach max level without ever killing anything, getting your entire party to a high level would be easiest if they were all great fighters and you were weak, so while starting as a shepherd may seem truly bad (and your starting location is terrible considering the poison fields in Magincia and your zero spell points so no Cure spells), it can actually be quite good.

Agreed! Although if you want to play Ultima 5 on hard mode you could create a Shepherd in U4, immediately save and then transfer the character to U5. You end up with a character with much worse stats than what you would get from creating a new U5 character. -- Fenyx4 21:52, 3 January 2023 (MST)
