Spell's name[edit]
You're right, I looked it up in the manual, and I had completely forgotten the name of the spell was energy cone. I was wondering if we could just consider it the Ultima V version of Mass Death, since Ultima V doesn't have a Mass Death spell, and they seem to have about the same mechanism of action. It'd be kind of how we consider Peer and View or Kill and Death Bolt. (Dungy 21:36, May 18, 2010 (UTC))
- Actually, no. Mass Death by definition kills everything around you. Energy Cone kills or severly damages foes in said area. So this doesn't fit, they are different spells.--Tribun 21:52, May 18, 2010 (UTC)
- I can't seem to find this in the manual. Are you looking it up in the reference card?--Sega381 07:55, 4 March 2011 (PST)
- Nope, it is in the book, in the spell chart, only called "Cone of Energy". I simplified the name. Since the spell has no other name, we should use this one.--Tribun 08:02, 4 March 2011 (PST)
- Oh, I found it, but in the "Quick Reference Card" (maybe it is included in the manual in some editions). Yes, I see the Chart of Spells there. However, "cone of energy" is listed as the "effect", not the spell name. We could choose it as the spell name, seeing as how several of the other effects are very similar to spell names from other ultima games... but the actual spell name is In Vas Grav Corp. Hmm, I'm not sure how to handle this "effect" column.--Sega381 09:35, 4 March 2011 (PST)
- I'd be in favor of having it named either Cone of Energy as written (even though that is listed as the effect, as you said) or, if it has to be a contraction, something directly derivative of the words of power, like Death Energy. It might be pedantic, but I'm a great stickler for staying as close as possible to what lore we have in these cases where it's not 100% set in stone. I just wish Origin hadn't gone all weird with how they presented the spell names in U5. --Terilem 07:13, 7 March 2011 (PST)
- Yes, I agree. In any event, if according to Talk: Energy Wind, we may be going to merge this article with Death Wind, we won't have to worry about another name for this article, as Death Wind would be the one to use.--Sega381 08:09, 7 March 2011 (PST)
- Oh yes, good point. Somehow that hadn't even occurred to me. --Terilem 09:43, 8 March 2011 (PST)
- But as we won't be merging them for now, I think the best idea would be to call it In Vas Grav Corp. That would be the name I would use on this article. Energy Cone, Cone of Energy, etc, can be used as redirects, as they aren't really the spell name.--Sega381 08:28, 22 March 2011 (PDT)
Merging with Death Wind[edit]
So, once again in this article now, anyone against merging Death Wind with this spell, Energy Cone? Do they seem to be sufficiently the same spell, or are there enough differences?--Sega381 12:20, 8 March 2011 (PST)
- Some pros:
- They both create a cone/fan that not just harms but outright kills most enemies.
- They both belong to the same circle.
- They share 3 of the 4 reagents, with Death Wind adding one more.
- Some cons:
- Energy Cone is described as "energy" (though indirectly, in the lorequote it is only refered to "this spell"), while Death Wind is described as "a gale of lethal wind".
- Their words of power are very different, only sharing the obvious "CORP".
- Maybe we shouldn't merge if there in any reasonable doubt? Is there a reasonable doubt here?--Sega381 12:28, 8 March 2011 (PST)
- As no comments have been made, and since they seem to have differences, they will remain separate for now.--Sega381 08:27, 22 March 2011 (PDT)
