Talk:Daemons
Not a cohesive race[edit]
I feel that this article does not properly adress the fact that "demon" is poorly defined. It seems to be a loose catch-all designation for any "demonic" being that isn't clearly identified as belonging to a specific race. Arguably, every named demon known in Ultima is unique and they have little if anything in common, and none of them is identified with any of the established demon subtypes.
The one exception seem to be the Gargoyles. We know through Sin'Vraal that they were simply lumped in with generic demons in U5; and a case could be made for the demon horde that had to be held at bay with the silver horn at the shrine of humility in U4 were probably also Gargoyles. (There's also a pet Balron guarding the reagents shop in Buccaneers Den in U4 but iirc it would attack on sight but unlike Nate the snake it was not a character that could be talked to.) Balinor on the other hand, depicted with the same generic Demon sprite in U5 as Sin'Vraal, does not seem to be a Gargoyle. Also, Demons have combat abilities that Gargoyles do not have, especially summoning other Demons.
So I guess what I'm saying is we should not treat them as a race, and instead as a summary group of demonic creatures. Frabby (talk) 15:04, 4 August 2025 (MDT)
