Shazbot is a jester residing in Vesper during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
A funny and fun-loving woman, Shazbot would ask if the Stranger found her amusing, and would dare the adventurer to ask her about Nate the Snake. When taken up on such a challenge, however, she would not explicate on the topic, saying it was a long story and did not have the time.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Shazbot can be identified with the shepherd located nearby, outside the buildings of Vesper. He simply says "Hello" when spoken to.[2]
- Should the Stranger inquire about Shazbot's health, she will claim to have a "slight tickle".
- Nate the Snake is actually the topic of an exceptionally long shaggy dog story, which features nearly thirteen pages of narrative regarding a dying man who meets Nate, a magical serpent who watches over the remnants of Eden, before the story eventually terminates in a punchline.[3]
- Shazbot's name is likely a reference to an expletive commonly used by Robin Williams' character in the '70s/'80s sitcom, Mork and Mindy.
