Rebelias is a mystic wizard living in Moonglow during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Rebelias claimed to live an honest life and would openly extol the importance of his city's cardinal Virtue. If spoken to, he would encourage the Stranger to strive toward overcoming personal evils.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- Rebelias is named for François Rabelais, a French Renaissance humanist writer. The Ultima character paraphrases a quote from Rabelais' Le quint livre (lit. The Fifth Book), exhorting the Stranger to "Speak the truth and shame the evil forces!" (the actual quote is: "Speak the truth and shame the devil").[2]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Rebelias can be identified with the bard in the same location. He still asks about the Stranger's virtue, but the answer will also increase or decrease the hero's Honesty.[3]
