Description: wandering tinker
Location: Minoc
Transcript: Merida

Merida is a wandering tinker dwelling in Minoc during Ultima IV.

Description[edit]

The Stranger could find Merida outside of Peter’s Iron Works. A pilgrim seeking the wisdom of the Shrine of Sacrifice, the tinker would tell the hero the location of the edifice: on a lake to the east. She would also mention that a hidden shepherd knew of the virtue's mantra.[1]

Trivia[edit]

  • In a document discovered by historians Robert De Main and Carlotta Stein that purports to be the Avatar’s personal diary, Merida is described as having long black hair, tied back with a band. The hero mentions her as having a restless, far-away look, as though not as rooted as the other tinkers of the area.[2]
  • In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Merida can be identified with the tinker inside of Peter’s Iron Works, and he gives the same information about the Shrine location (in fact, mantras were omitted from the remake).[3]
