Grod is a troll who works as an enforcer for the Fellowship in Buccaneer's Den. He appears in Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
Grod was a simple individual who took great satisfaction in his job, childishly enjoying the screams his torturous ministrations provoked from his victims, Anton and Sullivan. Having but a rudimentary grasp of the Fellowship's principles, Grod appeared to be receiving his orders directly from the Guardian, and should the Avatar address him, Grod would grow concerned, fearful that the "voice" had grown displeased with his work and that he had not been beating his charges frequently enough.[1]
If the hero attempted to dissuade the troll from such savagery, Grod would emphatically refuse, loving his work too much to abandon it. The only way to release the two prisoners in his care, ultimately, was to slay him and to take his keys.[2]
Trivia[edit]
- Should Anton and Sullivan be present onscreen while talking to Grod, the two prisoners will occasionally comment, arguing over who should be tortured first and voicing their exasperation should the Avatar inadvertently convince the troll to abuse them further.[1]
- Should Anton and Sullivan be absent or dead, Grod will become sad and express his disappointment at having nobody to hurt.[3]
