Frank the Fox is a sapient talking fox who can be found outside of the Lycaeum in Ultima VII. He looks similar to other foxes in the game, save that he appears to wear a green scarf or collar around his neck.
Description[edit]
It is unknown how Frank the Fox was gifted with the power of speech, but it is certain that many regretted that he had it. He claimed to be a devout follower of Honesty, but seemed not to quite understand the philosophy behind this virtue. Rather, he spoke whatever was on his mind, tactlessly explaining to others exactly how he saw them without consideration for their feelings. Among other things, he would describe the Avatar as rude, bellicose, unschooled, possessed of poor personal hygiene, an abnormally large nose, and crackling voice. He would also voice his opinion that Dupre drank to excess, that Shamino was a coward, and that Iolo charged far too much for his crossbows and bolts.[1]
Lore[edit]
“ | Also, avoid the talking fox, if possible. He will not harm thee, but is quite, quite rude. – from Key to the Black Gate (Ultima VII)

Trivia[edit]
- Iolo, Shamino and Dupre will all object to Frank's assessment of them should they be present while talking to the animal.[1]
- Frank's interpretation of Honesty is echoed by real world proponents of the controversial self-improvement technique of Radical Honesty, which requires its followers to avoid white lies and omissions of their feelings in the hopes of gaining a deeper sense of intimacy with their fellow human beings.
