Wikia editors[edit]

We might want to think carefully about directing new Wikia editors to here. I've just noticed the most recent one who was given our URL has now started copying our articles verbatim. There's only been one so far (Abandoned Fortress) but it's nonetheless a troubling sign. Edit: The same person has also copied several articles from UO Guide. --Terilem (talk) 08:13, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Wow, I really should have kept reading the activity feed before I posted this. A whole bunch of our articles have been copied over. --Terilem (talk) 08:17, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Oh, that is NOT acceptable. Not like Wikia will help us with this matter, though. What should we do? Dungy (talk) 00:57, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
It is not technically wrong, is it? I think the license under which we are putting stuff here allows that kind of behavior. We may not like it, and we may try talking to this guy and maybe thinking how to avoid this in the future. But I tend to think that the best strategy is to simply continue making this wiki the best Ultima reference... --Sega381 (talk) 02:45, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
Like Sega381 said it isn't wrong. In fact one of the reasons he's able to do it now is because we did it first. When we moved from Wikia we copied the content there wholesale. But in doing so we had to have also have a similar license. What is odd is that he started by adding new UO content and then came back a few days later to start copying wholesale. He hasn't done anything in the last few days. Hopefully he has lost interest. -- Fenyx4 15:56, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Of course it's annoying to no end that they copy&paste this openly, but I sincerely doubt they have the patience and energy to copy all of the changes and additions we made, not to speak of the pictures which are new or replaced with higher quality ones. They can't win.--Tribun (talk) 19:16, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

They're doing it again. Same editor. I know that it technically isn't wrong, but to watch our years of hard work shamelessly plagiarized like this is utterly demoralizing. --Terilem (talk) 12:32, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

No one is answering on the UOGuide forum. Terilem, where did you see that UOGuide doesn't allow duplication of content? -- Fenyx4 03:00, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

I dare say there seems to have been an understanding reached on his talk page about future articles, and he hasn't made any further copies in the past several days. He did an astounding amount in the short time before that, though. --Terilem (talk) 03:48, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
