Crystal splinter

The crystal splinter is an artifact appearing in Ultima Underworld. It expedites the bearer’s approach to the crypts on the seventh level of the Abyss.

Description

It was given to the Avatar by Kallistan on the seventh level of the Abyss, after giving the password revealed by Goldthirst: "deco morono". With the splinter in possession, it was possible for the Avatar to enter the crypts, building shortcuts through the seventh level that made crossing it much easier. As Kallistan speculated, the evil lurking in the tombs probably had left it around to be found as a lure, but held no chance against the hero of virtue.

Trivia

• The crystal is not actually needed to get into the tombs of the seventh level. Other passages to the tombs can be opened by casting reveal at the correct places. It is however needed to open the passage north, a shortcut to the prison.
• The crystal only works to open the path to the tomb if it is approached from the north side (outside the tomb). If approached from the south (inside the tomb) the way is not opened. Also note the textual error when approaching from the south, it says "You hear rocks falling behind you!" but clearly they are falling in front of you.
