Ultima VII
Location: Isle of Fire

Astelleron was a mage of considerable power, who specialized in golem construction and was known for his compassion and generosity. Though only his grave can be visited in Ultima VII, his legacy is well-felt.

Description[edit]

It is unknown how and why Astelleron moved to the sunken Isle of Fire in the first place. He however worked great magic to create an air bubble which laid the isle dry and allowed life to flourish in the place again. Considering the whole isle was still underwater, the animals he mentioned must have been transported by him to the island as well. Astelleron spent lots of time in exploring the island while creating golems to guard the tests of the principles, wanting to ensure that only the Avatar could access them.

However, over time Astelleron became lonely and craved for companions. Thus, when he discovered the Stone of Castambre, he got the idea of creating his own family in form of intelligent golems. His first attempt, Bollux, was not yet perfect and thus had limited intelligence, while his second attempt, Adjhar, had human intelligence and emotions. Astelleron loved them both as his sons and he spent many years with them. Eventually however, old age caught up with him. Adjhar and Bollux created a grave for him next to the hovel in which he had lived.

His legacy of compassion and generosity was so great, the magics of the Test of Love made his creations part of the test when tragedy struck.

Lore[edit]

At the moment, there is little hope of another ever laying eyes upon this watery land. Although one could survive here, thanks to the envelope of air that Astelleron created to permit breathing, it is doubtful someone else could travel here Without possessing my vast knowledge in summoning and controlling giant sea creatures. Doubtful that is, until I find the way to make this island rise again. When it is in its proper place, atop the Sea, then wilt thou share mine opportunity.

...

The eastern side is almost devoid of plant life, and the sand and rocks indicate this was once a small quarry. Perhaps this is where Astelleron fabricated the legendary stone guardians of the Shrines. Nearby his shack, also preserved by the air bubble. My exploration has been cursory thus far, but the books I saw in the house indicate an educated individual.
