Master Barren sends you from Skara Brae to Britain to consult with Guildmaster Mariah about the nature of The Weep. The mistress of magic wants you to travel to Gaunt Keep and gain entrance to Mimmoro's Stronghold.

Master Barren: "The plague is magical? That would explain a few things. A soul plague, eh? Those daemons are bloody clever... why curse the body when the spirit is just as vulnerable. Alas, that falls outside my expertise."

Master Barren: "Of course! This might just be the news that allows us to beat The Black Weep. Go to Mariah of the Mages Guild in Britain. There is no one that knows magic better than she."
You: "Farewell."

Guildmaster Mariah: "Stranger! It is good to see you again. Tell me now, what brings you to the Mages Guild?"
You: "I bring news of The Weep."
Guildmaster Mariah: "You have? Come on, out with it? My research has led to many ideas, but I have still not discerned The Weep's cause. Coming up with a cure will leave my head hairless before this crisis is through."
You: "The Black Weep is a necromantic plague on the soul." (Advance Quest)
Guildmaster Mariah: "A soul plague? That sounds... unlikely. The soul cannot become 'sick' in the medical sense. However, the pursuit of truth often leads us to inconvenient facts."
You: "How can I help?"
Guildmaster Mariah: "The Rangers Guild has tracked down the daemon, Mimmoro, to Gaunt Keep. I know not what he does there, but his involvement is all but certain. Search the Keep for something to help us stop this pestilence."
