Conversation[edit]

Battered Keg: [These kegs seem to have gone through a lot of movement recently, one of them has tumbled from the top of the other two. There is a faint copper smell in the air.]

You: [Move the Keg]

Battered Keg: [Upon moving the keg you find some blood stains. Whoever damaged the kegs probably cut themselves in the process. Perhaps someone inside might know more about this.]

You: [Start Investigating] (Accept Quest)

...

Greg: "Welcome to Folley Tavern! What'll it be, food or ale?"

You: "Neither actually, hows business?" (Story)

Greg: "Poor. Seems like this Weep nonsense is keeping people from traveling about. I mean, does the Weep actually exist? Sounds like hogwash to me. Oh, but you should really try the Folley Filet, best dish in town I'd say."

You: I found a blood stain by the kegs, know anything about it?" (Advance Quest)

Greg: "Yeah, bandits ransacked this place last week. Kristin's husband stopped by a bunch of times before hand, but never actually bought anything... pretty suspicious if you ask me. Oh, you should really try the Folley Filet, best dish in town."

'You: "Some other time. Farewell."

...

Kristin: "What can I do for you, Stranger?"

You: "I'm investigating the tavern break-in. I'm looking for your husband."

Kristin: "What? Ryan frequents the tavern, but he'd never consort with bandits. You've got the wrong idea."

You: "I never said anything about bandits. Sounds like you're hiding something." (Advance Quest)

Kristin: "I... I don't know what you're talking about. Ryan hasn't done anything wrong. If you want to talk to him, he's working at the Smithy right now."

You: "Farewell."

...

Pierre: "I've got three concerns in life, Stranger: my hammer, my anvil, and my daughter. I can always get a hammer and anvil, but my daughter is irreplaceable. Everything else is no concern of mine."

You: "How is your daughter?" (Story)

Pierre: "She's great! She's only four, but she's already picking up the hammer just like her ol' dad. Drives her mother mad of course, but there you go!"

You: "Have you seen Kristin's husband, Ryan?"

Pierre: "Ryan? I haven't seen him in a month or so. I wasn't getting enough business to afford to keep him on, what with the bandit raids driving away travelers and such. Wasn't an easy decision, that's for sure."

You: "Kristin said he'd be here. Do you know where he might have gone?" (Advance Quest)

Pierre: "I'm not his keeper and I'm no detective, but if she sent you here she probably isn't telling you the whole truth."

You: "You're probably right. I'll speak with her."

...

Kristin: "...You're back. Did you manage to speak with Ryan?"

You: "He wasn't there. Pierre said it's been a month since Ryan was let go."

Kristin: "I know... to tell you the truth, I've known for a while. He skipped town just after Folley Tavern was broken into. It had to have been him. I really didn't want this to come out, Stranger. Why couldn't you just leave it be?"

(You have the Quandry:)

  • "People deserve to know the truth. You can't deny them that." (+Honesty)
  • "He committed a crime. The tavern deserves to know who was responsible." (+Justice)

Kristin: "I know. I just wish it didn't have to come out like this. It's bad enough that he abandoned me, but not I have to live with the town's gossip. I don't know how much more I can take."

You: "I'm sorry, but I have to tell Wilmore about this."

Kristin: "I understand, Stranger."

You: "Farewell, Kristin."

...

Chief Guard Wilmoore: "We've seen our fair share of trouble from bandits; you aren't here to cause trouble are you?"

You: "I've learned that Ryan is responsible for the break in at Folley Tavern."

Chief Guard Wilmoore: "You're certain? What proof do you have?"

You: [Tell Wilmoore your findings.]

Chief Guard Wilmoore: "I see. That's a shame. I guess after he lost his job he fell into despair. Ryan won't be welcome in Paws anymore, but we'll be sure to look after Kristin. Thanks for getting to the bottom of this, Stranger."
