Bennie is the head butler of Castle Britannia during Ultima VII.

Having gotten on in years, Bennie was fast approaching retirement by the time of the Avatar's adventures concerning the Black Gate. The years had dulled his memory, and as a result he was prone to making mistakes. His wife, Boots, could relate how he had ruined the sovereign's dinner a week prior by consistently adding more garlic to the mix, forgetting having added it with each iteration.[1] Thankfully for the aged servant, Lord British took it in good humor (perhaps in part to the sovereign's previously stated preference for spicy stews).[2]
Should the Avatar request it of him, Bennie would be glad to serve the hero fresh roast beef and pastries crafted by his wife. He would also happily tell of his family, which comprised the majority of the domestic staff at the castle – with Boots serving as head cook and their children Nell and Charles serving as a chambermaid and a valet, respectively.[3] Within a year of the Black Gate's dismantling, Bennie and Boots retired, with Bennie ceding his position as head servant to his son. This span of time also saw the coming of the elderly couple's first grandson by Nell, who married her sweetheart Carrocio in a grand ceremony within the castle several months prior to the birth.
