Yvella is a young housewife living in Vesper during Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

Yvella was an anxious woman, worn by the stresses of raising a family in an integrated town and worried over her husband's distant nature and her daughter's attitudes. Spending most of her time alone in the care of Catherine, her child by Cador of the Britannian Mining Company, Yvella feared greatly the large gargish population in the town, subscribing wholesale to the bigoted rhetoric of Britannian Purity League. She was greatly worried by Catherine's guileless color-blindness as far as gargoyles were concerned, and was concerned about her unexplained absences each noon as she wander across the village's oasis to play.[1]

In addition to fears of marauding gargoyles, Yvella also seemed jealous over her husband's close relationship to his co-worker Mara, a working woman whose beauty made the young mother feel uneasy. She fretted frequently about Cador's nights at the Gilded Lizard with her, although she would voice no opinions that the two were anything more than friends. Gossipy and judgmental, the woman would further air her opinions of numerous other Vesperians, belittling mayor Auston as she insinuated that even the recently arrived Avatar would make a superior city administrator.[2]

Should the Avatar follow Catherine on Yvella's behalf, the hero could learn that the child was visiting the gargish historian, For-Lem, to hear stories of the gargoyles' past. If discovered, the scholar would beg the champion of virtue not to tell the child's parents, fearing that she would be unjustly punished.[3] Should the hero nevertheless reveal the girl's activities to Yvella, she would be enraged and frightened, telling the Avatar that her husband would "take care" of the problem. The child would later reveal that the gargoyle had been murdered.[4] [5]

Lore[edit]

Just yesterday Yvella, Cador's wife, said she believes her daughter is being harassed by the Gargoyles. Even I have seen little Catherine straying too close to the oasis. It would not surprise me if one those daemons nabbed her when no one was watching.

Trivia[edit]

  • Dialogue in the Ultima VII usecode appears for Yvella which implies that Cador and Mara may be killed in a bar room brawl, similarly to Anmanivas and Foranamo, should the hero claim to be the Avatar when speaking to them – although this incident does not appear to be reproducible in gameplay.[6]
