The unnamed world of Killorn Keep (unofficially called Atarka in Ultima fan circles) is one of many realms which have fallen to the Guardian's campaigns of conquest. The Avatar visits it during Ultima Underworld II.

Description[edit]

The world of Killorn Keep is nominally governed by a High Council from its an unnamed capitol, although its human leaders are little more than pawns answering to the Guardian who openly rules as lord of the realm. Inhabitants of the plane are encouraged to follow a twisted system of ethics which mirrors the eight Britannian virtues, and are expected to conform to the Red Titan's will at any cost.[1][2][3]

As the Guardian's power seems firmly entrenched on this world, it appears to be used as a launching point for campaigns of conquest against other planes, and troops from this domain were used to invade both Rhiannon and Britannia.[4]

Known Locations[edit]

Killorn Keep[edit]

Main article: Killorn Keep

Killorn Keep is a magical fortress which flies over the Northern Wastes of this world. It was visited by the Avatar during the struggles to free Castle Britannia from the blackrock dome and served as base of operations for Mors Gotha's attempts to lay siege to Britannia.

Javra and Mashan[edit]

Javra and Mashan are countries along a trade route which includes Killorn Keep. The traveler Kintara hails from the former state and can tell the Avatar about her journey to the latter, giving the hero place names which can be used to learn of the world.[5]

Krain Desert[edit]

Killorn Keep is located over a part of the Northern Wastes known as the Krain Desert. The area is inhabited by nomadic tribes, many of which seems to be resistant to the rule of the Guardian.

The Styx[edit]

Lobar briefly mentions a location known as "The Styx," and insinuates that the Avatar might be from there when the hero fails to recognize his name.[3]

Tuay Mountains[edit]

The Tuay mountains are a natural feature bordering Javra.[5]

Trivia[edit]

  • The name "Atarka" which is sometimes used for this world was created by Shadow of Light Dragon for her Ultima fanfiction "The Black Ankh."
  • Meat-on-a-stick resembling kebabs appears to be one of the culinary staples of this world.
  • Guards make mention of the use of airships to convey fighting forces to Killorn Keep, indicating that the world it inhabits has magic or technology sufficient to build such crafts.[6]
