This article is about an NPC in Ultima VII. For an NPC in Ultima IX, see Wislem (U9).

Wislem (translating roughly to "Wise Man" in Britannian English) is a gargoyle working as one of Lord British's royal advisers in Ultima VII, and quite probably serves as a member of the Great Council.[1]

Description[edit]

Wislem, along with councilor Inwisloklem, acted as a representative of gargish interests to the Britannian government, helping to work on issues such as racial prejudice, immigration and integration. While proud to be descended from a long lineage of such advisers, Wislem admitted that there was still much work to be done in gaining societal acceptance for the gargish people.[2]

If given news of the murder of Inamo in Trinsic, Wislem would be saddened by such violence, and would charge the Avatar with informing the still reigning gargish king, Lord Draxinusom of the youth's death, such as that Inamo's parent might be informed of his passing.[3]

Trivia[edit]

  • Wislem is also the author of To Be or Not To Be, a primer designed to introduce young gargoyles to English.[4]
  • In the SNES Port of Ultima VII, Wislem will already have heard of Inamo's kidnapping by the time the Avatar arrives in Britain.[5]
  • Dialogue Patch for Ultima IX makes him and Wislem (U9) to be the same character; without this patch installed such association is never mentioned.
