The Ultima V Upgrade Patch, created by Voyager Dragon, adds music to the IBM PC version of Ultima V.

The Patch[edit]

In 1988 music cards were uncommon on the IBM PC, but other computer game systems included a full soundtrack for the game. This patch updates Ultima V to the standards of the C-128 and Apple II version – as the songs were used differently on the Atari ST – however with much higher sound quality. Also, the song from the Amiga version is added to the character generation, which originally featured no music at all. The patch also does create more situations where the key sequence CTRL-E can be used to exit to DOS.

The patch is intended to be installed in DOSBox. One problem is, that the u5cfg.exe needs DPMI, which DOSBox does not provide. A substitute is available here. Unpack it and make sure that all the files are in the root directory of the game (no sub-folders). Now the u5cfg.exe should work as intended.
