Tyson is a prison guard who may be found working in Castle Britannia in Ultima IX.

Description[edit]

Should the Avatar venture into the castle dungeons, Tyson would comment that it was strange that the hero would want to visit. If asked about the prison, he would mention that some of the most despicable criminals in the realm were incarcerated within its walls, mentioning that one of his charges was completely insane. He would then caution the Avatar not to meddle with the jail cell controls, lest any of his charges escape.

Tyson would grow upset should the hero choose ignore his warning. If the Avatar pulled three of the levers controlling the cell doors, the irate jailer would go so far as to throw the hero into one of the cells for a brief period of time, hoping that he might teach the Avatar a lesson in the process.[1]

The anonymous journal of one of the guards in the Dungeon Despise could shed more light on the beginning of Tyson's career. Its author made an entry complaining bitterly that he had gotten his job around the same time as Tyson, but that he had lamentably been assigned to a rat-infested cave while Tyson got to work in the comfort of Castle Britannia.

Lore[edit]

This post is so dull. Tyson and I got these jobs together, but he gets to stay in the castle! My time is worth too much to sit around here staring at rats. Why don't they get one of those people from Paws to do this? Now one of my keys is missing. Those blasted rats must have knocked it off the table again. They usually don't take it too far, so I'll just find it tomorrow. It's getting late, and Dara should have a tankard of ale waiting for me.
