Transport Tube station

Transport Tubes are a fast way to move around on the Mars of the late 19th century.

Description[edit]

These tubes essentially work like an oversized pneumatic tube transport system, as it was used during the late 19th and early 20th centuries for fast transportation of mail. However, this system is perfectly safe for people to use. Each of the four cities, Argyre, Elysium, Hellas and Olympus have a station of these tubes that allow nearly instantaneous travel to the other cities. The stations are not within the cities themselves, but next to the city gates.

In Martian Dreams, the tube system could only be accessed after getting into Olympus for a needed replacement poart for repairing the power grid, since without power the tubes of course didn't work. Initially, the Argyre route would only lead to a blocked metal gate, thanks to Raxachk blocking off the city and the station being located outside of it. Only after the Avatar's party forced its way into Argyre by blasting open the gate did its transport tube become useful again.

Lore[edit]

While they seem to have been related to pneumatic tube technology, such as we find at modern drive-through bank windows, I am unclear as to their exact structure and design. A shame. They were quite efficient.
