Ultima IV
Type: tavern
Location: Trinsic
Tavernkeeper: Terran

The Keg Tap is a tavern in Trinsic during Ultima IV. It is run by Terran.

Description[edit]

In this smoky establishment well known for its fine brews,[1] the Stranger could find Publius, wearily doing his best to drink many a toast to Honor,[2] and Dupre, then leader of Trinsic.[3] The barkeep, on Mitre’s advice, could also be questioned as to the whereabouts of the white stone.

Some time after the conclusion of the Quest of the Avatar, the tavern closed down and Trinsic lacked a proper tavern for years until by the time of the gargoyle war it finally got replaced by the Fool's Pair o' Dice.

Lore[edit]

“What’s wrong with thee? he asked, "Hast thou caught the plague? If so we must send thee from this place, for surely we cannot endanger the lives of others.
“A noble sentiment, Dupre. But what ails me is too much of your fine ale.”
“Thou shouldst not drink beyond thy limits. Thou art old enough to have learned this lesson before.”
“Once or twice,” I said. “I don’t make this a habit, if that’s what you mean.”
“Even so,” “’tis a fool who gets drunk."
“Call me a complete idiot.”
“Thou art an idiot.”

Trivia[edit]

  • According a document discovered by historians Robert de Main and Carlotta Stein which purports to be the Avatar’s personal diary, the Keg Tap was the site of much celebration amongst the Stranger and companions shortly after the party had retrieved the wheel of HMS Cape and made the acquaintance of Dupre—leading to a rather nasty hangover for the hero the next morning.[1]
  • In Yoko Tanaka's manga re-telling of Ultima IV, Shamino leads the party to the bar in Trinsics (presumably the Keg Tap) in the hopes of finding information about Deane’s older brother Shiva. The ranger manages to get word of some useful rumors, although Terran (portrayed here as stereotypically homosexual and man-hungry) makes him rather uncomfortable in the process.[4]
