The Clerk can be found by at the desk of the Hotel California in New San Antonio in Ultima II.
Description[edit]
The Clerk will happily welcome the Stranger to the hotel,[1] and for a tip might raise the hero's attributes.
Trivia[edit]
- The Clerk is essential for character advancement in Ultima II.
- Whenever the Clerk is offered gold, there is a 75% probability that he raises any one random attribute (by 4 units per 100 gold).
- In the original Apple II version, the Clerk would not raise Strength, thus forcing the player into creating a character whose Strength is 29 or more since the beginning of the game. In fact, a character with Strength 28 or less is unable to survive space travel, and therefore unable to complete the game.
- The Hotel California is based upon the 1976 rock song by the Eagles
- With the Ultima II Upgrade Patch, the Clerk always asks which stat to raise and never just pockets the money.
