Tavern or Pub[edit]

"Real taverns only appeared in Ultima V. Before, they were either food shops or pubs, but no real taverns." I'm not really sure what this means, maybe because I'm fuzzy on the definitions of the words. What is the difference between a tavern and a pub? According to Wikipedia, the difference is very thing, vague, and depending on the location. And the example given does not apply here. So, what is the real intention of this sentence? I'm not getting it. Any help would be appreciated.--Sega381 00:51, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

As far as I know for Ultima lore, a tavern has both, drinks and food. A pub however only has drinks. Don't know if this goes for real life, but it is this way in Ultima. Thus the sentence means that only from Ultima V onwards, taverns started to exists, since they had both things to offer.--Tribun 01:31, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing that up here and in the article itself!--Sega381 01:52, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
This isn't accurate, as evidenced by the lore section in the article itself, where pubs, public houses and taverns are used interchangably. There is no difference between the two. --Warder Dragon 15:01, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
So, unless someone can find a reference to pub meaning only drinks and tavern meaning drink and food, the article should be reworded so as to note the evolution between U3 and U4 (adding food), but not to make a difference between "pub" and "tavern".--Sega381 17:33, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
