Silver Horn Count[edit]

This is a strange time to be labelling material as speculation. Inconsistency is a license Ultima frequently makes for itself. What's so drastically inconsistent about the Silver Horn that it should not be assumed to be the same one? Its name, at least, seems pretty specific. Is it anything more certain than the possibility that there are five Iolos and a dozen Lord Britishes? AngusM 03:08, November 8, 2009 (UTC)

I see no convincing argument for why the gargoyle horn and the Silver Horn could be the same item. I think they deserve seperate pages. --Warder Dragon 15:51, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

This has been bothering me for awhile. "looked like a post horn, and was only painted on the ground." What does it mean, "only painted on the ground?" Dungy 18:54, September 26, 2010 (UTC)
I think it somehow tries to refer to the graphical limitations of the U9 eninge. I moved that to the trivia section for now, but it may be something worth deleting.--Sega381 19:46, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

Horn location[edit]

I'm kind of going off of memory on that Ultima IV screenshot, so if I'm on the wrong island, could someone let me know. I already picked it up in my save game of Ultima IV, so I can't get it again. Dungy 14:39, September 26, 2010 (UTC)

According to my (over 20 year old!!) notes taken when I played the game, the Horn was described to be buried "on a small island off the tip of Spiritwood" - might be nice to recap this wording in the article. Frabby 09:39, 11 February 2011 (PST)

Horn use[edit]

The text says you could reach the Shrine of Humility without the Horn. That's untrue, at least for the Commodore 64 version I played: When you passed into the mountain vale holding the shrine, a group of demons suddenly appeared one tile south and immediately attacked the party. You could defeat them in combat, but the group re-spawned and usually, you could not move back over the rough terrain, creating a deadlock that could not be broken without the horn. I also believe you had to blow the horn repeatedly (for every move) because of the respawn. Frabby 09:39, 11 February 2011 (PST)

In the PC version, you could continue trying to move south after each combat. you could eventually fight your way through the mountains, although it took many battles. You could also land a balloon on the shrine. Dungy 22:06, 11 February 2011 (PST)
It might be worth testing the C-64 version to see if it does behave differently. As I recall, the Apple version works the same way that Dungy reports the PC version doing. I sure hope we aren't faced with the problem of the 64 doing it differently. The Ultra-Mind 14:24, 12 February 2011 (PST)
I'm as certain as I can be after over 20 years. Back in the day, I explored the heck out of Ultima IV to the point of defeating the pirates at the Isle of the Avatar without the Wheel of the HMS Cape just to see what lay beyond. (I only learned of the wheel much later in the game, and then immediately knew its purpose.) I know it took me a lot of attempts until it was the pirate fleet and not my ship that went to the bottom, and so I'm fairly sure that, despite trying for a long time, I never managed to reach the shrine without the horn. Horn in the Museum[edit]

Wait, were both horns in the museum? The one that summons silver serpents appears in Ultima VII and the one that can "drives away daemons" appeared in Ultima IX, if the pre-split version of this article was to be believed.--Blu3vib3 16:10, 13 August 2011 (PDT)
