The Summon Pyros ritual summons the powerful titan Pyros from his domain to do the caster's bidding in Ultima IX. Doing so is highly dangerous, as he is greatly annoyed by such disturbance of his sleep and if the caster is not powerful enough, it will be his or her end!

Description[edit]

To summon Pyros, the caster needs to put a daemon skull, spider silk, sulfurous ash and a piece of blackrock into a specially prepared pentagram made of blood. Then, a red candle is placed into the middle and ignited. When cast, the Avatar is sucked into the Abyss seeming to indicate that Pyros escaped afterward, but no mention is made of this afterward.

Taught by Malchir in the Spirit Realm in order to gain access to the Great Stygian Abyss.

Lore[edit]

Summon Pyros is but a rumor, a lyric on the tongues of bards, of a terrible ritual to unfetter the Titan of Fire from his chains and unleash him upon the Earth. If, by chance, you should learn of it, do not forget the lyric's coda: So summon Pyros, the Lord of Fire, and bind him to your soul. Though he does your will, will he return you to his hole.
– from Spellbook (Ultima IX)

Trivia[edit]

  • In the Bob White plot, the summoning never happened, as the video was part of the plot where the Guardian shows Lord British false images, implying that the Avatar had freed Pyros to destroy Pagan.
  • This ritual is mentioned in the spellbook, which is written by a Britannian mage. It is not clear how the mage would know of this ritual.
  • The pentagram finally used to summon Pyros in the Isle of the Avatar doesn't actually need the Avatar to carry a piece of blackrock for the ritual to work for it lays over blackrock floor.
