Shaana is the executioner of Tenebrae. She appears in Ultima VIII

Description[edit]

Shaana performed her task with grim stoicism, beheading those who ran afoul of the reigning Tempest. In the days that followed the Avatar's arrival on Pagan, she would execute both the gem-cutter, Toran, and the scholar, Bentic – and while she personally cared little about the men's guilt or innocence, she would privately admit to having misgivings regarding Mordea's penchant for casting her victims to the Lurker.

A terse and pragmatic individual, Shaana disliked wasting time in idle conversation, and would grow annoyed should the Avatar persist in needling her for information. Should the hero convincingly demonstrate an interest in scholarly pursuits, however, she could eventually be coaxed into revealing the location of the thaumaturge, Mythran, with whom she occasionally kept company.

When it was eventually revealed that Devon – rather than Mordea – was the rightful Tempest, Shaana refused to execute the man, claiming her loyalty was to the Tempest and not to Mordea herself. She was nearly killed soon after, when the embittered woman unleashed a magical storm upon those who refused to acknowledge her legitimacy following this revelation, although she eventually recovered from her wounds and went on to continue her work under Devon.[1]

Trivia[edit]

  • A bed with manacles affixed to either side of its headboard may be found in Shaana's house in the western part of the city.
