The map

This map of Britannia comes with Runes of Virtue II for the SNES, being printed in the Runes of Virtue II manual.

Description[edit]

While the original Runes of Virtue offered a Britannia that bore little resemblance to the land of the main Ultima series, this episode offers a depiction of Britannia which closer resembles the land known in the core episodes. Curiously, some of the labels both on the map and within the game give bizarre names to the dungeons, probably due to the fact that the game was retranslated from Japanese to English. As such the dungeons are referenced as "caves" and bear names more obviously related to their opposite Virtue; Despise, for instance, is called the "Cave of Hatred."

Strangely enough, the Japanese original of Runes of Virtue II does not include the map in the manual

Other Releases of the Map[edit]

The map printed in the manual of the Game Boy-port is essentially the same as the one from the SNES, though it is devoid of any color, consisting of pure line art with labels instead of numbers. As with the SNES-port, the map, for whatever reason, was not included in the Japanese original of the game.
