Rocco, an elderly man with a bad memory for dates, is the owner of the branch of the Blue Boar Inn on the Serpent Isle, specifically Moonshade in the time of Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

Some time prior to the Avatar’s arrival on the Serpent Isle, Rocco helped Petra to get away from the tyrannical Torrissio by striking a deal with the mage that he had let Petra work in the inn to show off Torrissio's skill. Since then he had grown fond of her.

When meeting the Avatar, he told the hero a lot about the history of his inn and the emigration of the people from Sosaria to the Serpent Isle, although he only knew the official version. During that story he also mentioned Erstam and because of Filbercio's womanizing ways was mighty glad that Petra was metal. Rocco also remembered Batlin staying at the inn, adding that he'd stolen something important during that time, as well as Gwenno travelling to the Xenkan Monks to study old scripts.

When several days later Shamino the Anarch invaded Moonshade, he was murdered by the Bane personally.

Lore[edit]

The Blue Boar Inn was bustling. The barkeep was a surly little man who called himself Rocco. He took my order and I made myself comfortable at a small table.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the original plans, Rocco did not die. In leftover code found in the game files, a conversation between him and Petra is found, where they expand upon the Death Knight plot against Stefano. For more, see Material cut from Serpent Isle.
  • The model for Rocco's character portrait is Michael Pfeiffer.[1]
  • Should the Avatar ask Rocco about the bottle retrieved from the Goblin rally point north of Monitor, he will identify its contents as Fawnish ale, which he will disparage as swill and mention that he never stocks. Should the hero ask him more about Fawn, he will describe the city on the water, possibly eliciting some concern from Petra, who – not knowing how to swim – thinks it to be a rather dangerous place.[2]
  • All the inhabitants of Moonshade have Italian or pseudo-Italian names. Rocco is an actual Italian name.
  • The names of Rocco and Petra have similar etymology. They both mean "rock".
