The Ring of Reagents, also known as the Ring of Shal, appears in Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

Wearing it, the caster no longer has need for reagents, since the ring always provides necessary reagents for any spell cast. The Ring of Reagents was created by the wizard Shal with the aid of the Chaos Serpent, however at the cost of Shal ‘losing himself’ to pure chaos and becoming the evil creature known as The Fiend. However, before losing himself, Shal ordered an animated armour to hide the ring at a place unknown to him to make sure his altered self would not be able to use it.

The Avatar heard of this ring upon travelling into Serpent Isle's past, in the midst of the War of Imbalance. The Fiend told the Avatar of the ring, which he wanted to regain at any cost to unleash untold carnage. Searching through the tunnels, the Avatar found the ring, but, realizing the Fiend's evil intentions, would not hand it over. The Fiend attacked the hero and was subsequently destroyed in battle.

It is unknown what happened to it after the Avatar left the Serpent Isle.

Lore[edit]

This ring supplies you with unlimited reagents to cast spells. Slip it on your finger like a normal ring, and you no longer need to collect reagents. It cannot help anyone else.

Trivia[edit]

  • Creating the ring with the cheat program only creates a broken ring. While it does show infinite reagents in the spellbook, this actually is not the case and no spells can be cast with it. The player is forced to find the real ring.
  • The ring also helped to fix a possible plotstopper. Since after the Banes are released all reagents are finite - as all vendors are dead - it was possible to reach a dead end, being unable to cast spells that were needed to progess in the game. The ring granting infinite reagents fixed this problem.
