Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

This is an Ultima V: Lazarus-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima V or other Ultima games.

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Paul was a proud member of Blackthorn’s Oppression, who originally worked as the mason in Trinsic, but was currently employed in Woolfe’s shop to work sales and to keep an eye on the blacksmith. He was a detestable individual, collaborating with the Oppression to keep the city under their control. He was proud of his role in the overthrow of Trinsic by Blackthorn’s army, and would regale the Avatar in great detail about the event at the Crystal Chalice tavern, adding a great deal of his own personal opinion on the event. He also admitted he was busy with supplying arms for Blackthorn's army, and hoped to soon overthrow the keeps that refused to acknowledge Blackthorn's authority.[1]

Paul spoke highly of Trinsic's mayor Ellison, saying the man was a great and valorous leader, but feared that Tallon wished to overthrow him. The merchant told the Avatar how the previous dockmaster had died through mysterious means, and that Tallon had quickly taken his place. Saying he feared more treachery, Paul told the hero that Tallon may have his sight on Mayor Ellison's position next.

The Avatar could find out that Paul had strewn dirty rumors about a Beledan’s wife, Brethil, and her friend, Tallon. Paul was jealous of Tallon's rise to dockmaster, and wanted to discredit him. When he accidentally boasted about this while Tallon was present, Paul quickly fled the city in fear.
