Monsieur Loubet is a fighter in Serpent's Hold during the times of Ultima V and Ultima VI.

Description[edit]

The Avatar first met Monsieur Loubet in Serpent's Hold during the tyrannical reign of Lord Blackthorn. Loubet told the Avatar that he came from a far away land on a magic carpet. Not knowing the rarity of this item in Britannia, he sold the carpet to Bandaii of Paws. Loubet found Bandaii to be a most unusual man, always looking for the talking horse Smith.[1]

The Avatar met Monsieur Loubet again during the gargoyle crisis chronicled in Ultima VI. Loubet was employed as the fencing instructor for Serpent's Hold, but felt that most of the young warriors of Britannia lacked finesse in their fighting style. Loubet quickly recognized that the Avatar possessed superior dexterity, and was excited to teach him a lesson in combat. The Avatar benefited greatly from this experience.[2]

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

This is an Ultima V: Lazarus-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima V or other Ultima games.

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Monsieur Loubet introduced himself as the fencing master at Serpent's Hold, and told the hero that he was responsible for training young Knights as well as visitors to the keep.[3]

Loubet explained that he had learned his fencing prowess from his father, who had been the private instructor to a king in a far away land. Loubet mentioned that he had left his homeland as a young man to seek his fortune in Britannia, and had been forced to sell his only possession, a magic carpet, not realizing they were a rarity in Britannia. Upon identifying the hero as the Avatar, Loubet felt that his magic carpet would benefit the hero's quest, mentioning he had sold it to a mage named Bandaii in Paws, who was looking for the talking horse Smith.[4]

The trainer spoke highly of his two students Maxwell and Gabrienne, feeling that Maxwell had used his sword training to sharpen his skills with the axe, and would someday be a great Knight. He highly praised Gabrienne, who was proficient with a weapon, but actually preferred to avoid combat altogether by out-witting her opponents.

Monsieur Loubet was willing to teach Battle Focus and Parrying.

Runes of Virtue[edit]

In Runes of Virtue, Loubet could be found in a small hut to the south of Empath Abbey. He warned the hero to avoid the lava in the Cavern of Injustice. He also was willing to sell the hero several small items.

Lore[edit]

One who is worth visiting is the swordsman, Loubet, trainer of some of Britannia's finest fighters. He's a joy to watch (though he works his students far too hard to suit me).
