Ultima VII
Location: Paws

Merrick is a former beggar who has gained the succor of the Fellowship and resides in their homeless shelter in Paws in Ultima VII, working as a recruiter.

Description[edit]

Merrick had formerly been a companion of Komor and Fenn, who – like him – had been rendered destitute following the seven year drought. Hoping to escape his plight, Merrick eventually came to join the Fellowship such that he could partake of the members-only shelter – a move his former friends derided as opportunistic and mercenary, despite his best efforts to get them to follow suit.[1][2][3]

Although held up as a successful example of the Fellowship's transformational ideology by Feridwyn,[4] Merrick came across as nervous and duplicitous, frequently changing his opinions to fit with the tide of sentiment. If the Avatar's identity was revealed to Merrick, the former street beggar would dismiss the hero as a "worm," taking the claim to be a con such as was practiced by charlatans like Sullivan. Later, should the hero have managed to resolve the row over the theft of Morfin's silver serpent venom, Merrick would apologize for his words and cattily remark that he ought to guard his possessions while under the same roof as the thief, Garritt.[5]

Lore[edit]

Feridwyn and his wife have set up a shelter for those without a home, but it is sponsored by The Fellowship, so not everyone is willing to accept its hospitality. As a matter of fact, Komor, Fenn and Merrick were once good friends until Merrick "turned coat," as they claim, and moved into the shelter.
